THE FESTIVAL ORCHESTRA Shostakovich: Festive Overture Op. 96 Prokofiev: Piano Concerto No. 3 in C Major, Op. 26
Due to unforeseen circumstances Pierre Bensusan had to cancel his North American 2010 summer tour and his performance at the Mendocino Music Festival. We are pleased to announce that Peppino D’Agostino will be his replacement.
Sunday, July 11 at 8:00 PM PEPPINO D'AGOSTINO Peppino D’Agostino is a Renaissance man. This is not just because he grew up in Turin, Italy. Everything about the musician and his art – virtuoso acoustic guitarist, composer, singer, teacher and entertainer – is rooted in his heritage. As a young boy he discovered acoustic guitar music in church. His interests ranged from classical to folk to pop, from Irish and Italian traditional music to Brazilian jazz.
He is considered a pioneer of acoustic guitar, breaking new ground with technique while remaining obsessively committed to musicality and melody. Alternate tunings, tapping, drumming on the guitar, detuning with amazing precision in the middle of a song and making the guitar sound like everything from a bass to an “orchestra in a box” are all part of a D’Agostino performance.
In 2002 he developed his Seagull signature guitar model with guitar maker Robert Godin. His most recent accolade came from Guitar Player magazine when he was voted “Best Acoustic Guitarist” by its readers in the Reader’s Choice Awards in May 2007.

It says something about the quality of a CD when a rendition of "My Funny Valentine" is only "just" great. That would be opposed to the other nine tracks on Julian Waterfall Pollack's "Infinite Playground," which provide ample evidence that the 21-year-old Bay Area native is a ferociously assured and creatively dazzling pianist, composer and arranger... - San Francisco Chronicle 6/6/2010 (more)
