The
Mendocino
Music
Festival will be
offering
young
musicians
full
scholarships
for its
2008
season.
Scholarships
are
available
for twelve (12) string
players, and are
limited
to
serious
musicians
between
the ages
of 16 and
25. The
program
includes
an
intensive
chamber
music
course as
well as
participation
in the
Festival
Orchestra
in the
company
of
professional
musicians
from the
Bay Area,
local
artists
and
soloists
of
national
and
international
renown.
The
two and a half (2½) week
Festival
takes
place in
one of
the most
spectacular
spots on
the
Northern
California
coast. |

Program Director and Cellist Julie Feldman has resumed her long term position with the former San Jose Symphony, now Symphony Silicon Valley, as well as frequently freelancing with many Bay Area groups since returning from a sabbatical year teaching at Mannes College of Music. She was a member for many years of the New York Chamber Soloists, touring in Europe as well as the U.S., and continues to work with a number of east coast ensembles. She has been director of chamber music at Marin Academy for 13 years, and has a private teaching studio in Berkeley. |

Program Director and Violinist Christina Mok, an established soloist, concertmaster, and chamber musician, maintains a very busy concert schedule. She studied at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London on full scholarship under Yfrah Neaman and later with Rodney Friend. While at the Guildhall, she was honored with a British Council Fellowship. She is the winner of numerous competitions including the BBC Young Artists' Forum Audition, the Sutton Chamber Music Competition, the Warshaw Violin Competition, the Korean Association Scholarship, and was named Young Promising Performer of the Year by the Seoul Arts Center in 1997. Ms. Mok has given solo and chamber recitals in Japan, England, Norway, the U.S. and Korea, performed for the BBC and Korean Broadcasting Service and was featured in prestigious festivals such as the Evian Festival in France and the BBC Proms in London. She appeared as a soloist with the Russian Federal Symphony Orchestra at Tchaikovsky Hall in Moscow during the city's 850th anniversary celebration. Ms. Mok has also performed as a soloist with the Janacek Philharmonic in Czech Republic, the Stockton Symphony Orchestra, the Symphony Silicon Valley and the Pacific Chamber Symphony in California, and the Suwon Philharmonic and the Seoul Symphony Orchestra in Korea, among others. She is an avid chamber musician and a founding member of the Laurel Ensemble. Ms. Mok is currently the Concertmaster of the Stockton Symphony and the Associate Concertmaster of the Symphony Silicon Valley. She is an active guest concertmaster and has led many orchestras in California. |
